The first, and arguably, still the best lodge in the Zulu battlefields. The main building is stuffed with artefacts and memorabilia – it is like staying in a museum.
Each morning and afternoon excursions are offered to these fascinating historical sights, where skilled guides bring the past to life.
Spacious cottages, each with a private veranda, are located at either the Lodge or the Guest House, where there are swimming pools with views across the Buffalo River Gorge.
The first, and arguably, still the best lodge in the Zulu battlefields. The main building is stuffed with artefacts and memorabilia – it is like staying in a museum. The morning and afternoon guided trips to Isandlwana & Rorke’s Drift are an absolute must.
The dining room is housed at the Lodge. The food is incredible which is also well supported by the views. We know that views are not supposed to overshadow the cuisine, but get there at the right time for a sunset; it might do just that - spectacular.
Fugitives’ Drift hosts two ‘camps’ – The Lodge and The Guest House. You can expect sweeping verandas showing the unspoilt view, en-suite bathrooms with each room creating a warm cottage feel. They are very comfortable and highlight the luxuries of home. If you fancy something a little further afield (2km to be precise) and more private the Umzinyathi & KwaGeorge are self-catering options where you are left to your own devices, however all the activities are still available for you to join in with.
Fugitives’ Drift is very proud of its heritage and wants to share its history with their younger guests. They have designed the Battlefields Kids Tour for the under 12s. Appropriately designed shorter, more interactive tours on the property, led by a guide, will engage and inspire their children with stories of the bravery and courage of the British soldiers and Zulu warriors. These tours will be followed by a game walk and a more cultural encounter:
