Sensitively constructed in a rare dry and beautiful sand forest this award-winning lodge provides a glass-walled wonderland onto one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet. This property is an architectural gem with its 16 suites all built on stilts with private viewing decks and minimalist design, described as Zulu Zen.
Nature is all around from red tonka squirrels scurrying in the treetops to red duiker antelope dotting the landscape around you. Meanwhile wide-eyed bush babys watch you around the boma, with the larger mammals, for which Phinda is renowned, lying in store elsewhere in the reserve.
The lodge is famous for the unique safari activities it offers including birding, photographic, rhino capture and research, tracking, walking, family and private safaris.
As with all the properties on Phinda, the game viewing is superb but this is the lodge for those seeking calmness, as the décor here is very minimalist.
There are different seating areas where Phinda Forest Lodge provide three meals a day. Our favourite is to be seated in the beautiful boma, telling our stories of our favourite spots of the day and showing off our amateur photography skills, over some wine, naturally.
There are 16 air-conditioned glass suites which are built on stilts and appear to float between the rare Sand Forest floor and the towering torchwood trees. Each suite is situated to ensure absolute privacy and each bathroom features his and her basins, bath, separate shower and separate WC. All suites have a personal bar on their private veranda, which we think go hand in hand when the sun is setting on another beautiful day.
Children are welcome, although triple rooms are not possible. Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in game-drives. Child minders at an additional cost. Children aged 6 to 11 years on game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion.
