The Belmond Mount Nelson is the best-known of all Cape Town hotels, with a wealth of history behind it. Originally built to house passengers from the Union Castle cruise liners, the British and Colonial heritage of the hotel shines through in the grand public rooms and classic, period furnished rooms.
The hotel sprawls over several buildings within seven acres of beautiful rose gardens and manicured lawns, creating a peaceful oasis in the heart of Cape Town. There are two heated swimming pools, and Librisa Spa which offers a range of holistic treatments.
From the colonial grandeur of the Planet bar and restaurant, to the al fresco informality of the pool area, the facilities at the hotel are superb. The rooms match the public areas for style and are luxurious, boasting a fantastic mix of period furnishings with modern elegance and opulence. There are 209 rooms, spread across several wings and all include modern amenities such as digital safe, television, hairdryer and minibar.
A very famous hotel which arguably rested on its laurels for far too long, but which is now definitely back up to scratch. The size of the gardens & swimming pool are fairly unique for a city centre in Cape Town, and even non-guests should book in for the afternoon tea.
Swimming Pool
There are two heated outdoor swimming pools:
The Oasis Pool, one of the largest heated pools in South Africa, is ideal for families. Poolside service available from October to April.
The Cottage Pool is located in a secluded spot and reserved for over-16s. Poolside service available from November to March.
Fitness Centre
Mount Nelson's fitness centre is equipped with the latest cardiovascular and weight training equipment. A trainer is available for fitness assessments and programmes.
Personal training facilities are available to hotel guests and the public. Professional tennis, golf and swimming coaches can be arranged on request.
The Nellie and Nelson Activity Centre
A colourful hive of activity, this centre for children aged 3 to 12 offers a range of educational games and toys, big-screen TV, blackboard wall, Nintendo Wii, beanbags and child-friendly furniture. Organised activities, from group games to storytelling, take place throughout the day.
Available to non-resident hotel guests at no extra charge when visiting Librisa Spa or any of the restaurants and bars.
Teen's Lounge
The lounge is the ideal place for young adults aged 12 to 18 to meet and have fun. Contemporary furniture, Xbox 360 games, a Nintendo Wii, a computer and big-screen TV provide a great entertainment space.
Available to non-resident hotel guests at no extra charge when visiting Librisa Spa or any of the restaurants and bars.
