South Africa’s largest city Johannesburg might not automatically be on everybody’s travel wishlist, but the metropolis in an attempt to compete with its more glamorous sister Cape Town is re-inventing itself as a glitzy, vibrant destination that merits more than a brief stopover or a few hours in transit at the airport. Cool restaurants, funky neighbourhoods, and world-class attractions such as the Apartheid Museum & SOWETO are all worth discovering, with the new five star Maslow Hotel, one of the Sun International Group’s flagship properties, now the perfect base from which to explore this exciting city.

The Maslow is located just a short stroll, or a quick complimentary transfer, away from Nelson Mandela Square and the many shops & restaurants of the vibrant Sandton City. Opened only last year, the hotel is a is a relatively new addition to Johannesburg’s hotel scene, but offers a very good option for those looking for all of the modern comforts but with a home away from home feel. The hotel boasts a range of indoor and outdoor dining areas, as well as a stylish bar outside, which comes alive with locals every evening. There is also a spa, gym and an outdoor swimming pool, (which is heated in the winter months), as well as a lounge with shower facilities for those arriving early or departing late. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-appointed and work well for both leisure or business travellers alike.

A frequent free shuttle runs to the Gautrain station, (from where express trains run to the airport), and with the train’s quick journey time guests can leave the hotel and be at the airport in just over 20 minutes, (which beats the notorious Jo’burg traffic hands down).
