Cape Town

About Cape Town

Situated on the south-western tip of Africa, the Cape is the meeting point of the cold Atlantic and the warm Indian Oceans. It is one of South Africa’s premier tourist attractions and is home to the famous Table Mountain, vast wine lands, magnificent beaches, gourmet cuisine and the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town. Known as ‘The Mother City’ and a destination in itself, Cape Town enjoys one of the world’s finest settings and is regularly voted amongst the best cities on the planet. The city’s many attractions include Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for so many years, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the stylish Camp’s Bay beach and Table Mountain, whose summit can be reached either on foot or by aerial cableway.

Further afield visitors can explore Cape Point, soak up the sun from one of the many stunning beaches, go whale-watching, enjoy the rich floral kingdom or simply immerse themselves in the city’s world-class galleries, museums, restaurants & boutiques. The tourist to South Africa could easily spend two or three weeks in The Cape, but that would mean missing out on so much more….

What are the best experiences on a Cape Town holiday?

Aside from the obvious - Table Mountain, Robben Island & the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, we suggest heading to Constantia, the city’s very own wine-producing area, to enjoy some wine-tasting and a leisurely lunch. Stroll along the promenade in Green Point and enjoy the open-air Sea Point swimming pool, or take the plunge and jump off the mountain on a paraglider. For the best beaches, head south down to Noordhoek & Kommetjie.

When should I travel on my Cape Town holidays?

High summer runs from November to February, when there is a mild Mediterranean climate with little rain and long sunny days. This is the season for the “Cape Doctor”, the South-Easter winds, with mornings less windy than the afternoons. Autumn  is usually less windy and days are balmy, making this possibly the best time to visit the Cape. Plenty of events take place during this time, including the annual Cape Argus cycle race in May. Days in winter, June to August, can be wet and windy although at times you can have perfect weather, but the mood is always lightened by the arrival at this time of year of the Southern Right Whales, and of the wildflowers starting to bloom in the desert to the north of the city.

Temperatures in Spring start to increase considerably making this a great time of year to plan a Cape Town, South Africa holiday.
