The Z Hotel is located in Nungwi in the north of the island, a popular area of hotels, restaurants, shops and bars. The beach here is not as tidal as some areas of Zanzibar so it is possible to swim at low tide and the hotel faces west for wonderful sunsets over the ocean.
The rooms are contemporary and colourful with amenities such as a safe, fridge, ipod docking station and an LCD TV. The suites are more spacious and every room has a balcony with either garden or sea views.
The location of Z Hotel is very fortunate and it serves as a lively hub of activity within the Nungwi area. Saruche Restaurant offers al fresco dining for breakfast and dinner overlooking the beach and the sea while the Cinnamon bar serves light meals as well as drinks and cocktails. A new addition is a rooftop bar which has furniture made from wood recycled from old sailing dhows. The hotel also has a small spa, cafe and gift shop.
The average temperature in Nungwi never changes drastically throughout the year, but if you're looking to experience the absolute maximum hot weather then January to March is the optimum time to visit. The various bars, hotels and restaurants in the area are at their busiest tourism period in July, and then between September and October so although more expensive, this is the best time to truly experience the area at its peak.
A great choice for those looking for a hotel and area with more of a buzz.
The main restaurant, Saruche, offers a four course table d'hote menu of African-European cuisine. The Cinnamon bar offers light lunches and sharing platters and the new roof top bar complete with recycled dhow wood furniture is a great place to enjoy a few evening drinks and watch the sunset.
The hotel has a total of 39 rooms and suites which are bright and modern with Philippe Starck desks, coconut wood furniture and sliding doors leading to a balcony. The rooftops suites are spacious with great sea views.
Arranged locally at extra cost:
The hotel does not accept children under the age of twelve.
