The Manor at Ngorongoro lies on the outskirts of Karatu, nestled between the Ngorongoro Conservation area and Manyara National Park. It is set on the 1,500 Shangri-La Coffee estate and guests can enjoy a horse ride through the coffee plantations should they wish.
The location means that you can visit both the Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara National Park on day trips (a day is required for each) and it is one of the few luxury options in the region that allows guests to do this. The drive times do mean early starts but you will be amply rewarded with superb game viewing in two of Tanzania's most stunning reserves.
The whole feel of the Manor is one of colonial elegance, with deep leather armchairs, open fires, cigars and snooker tables being the order of the day. The rooms are all set in their own elegant cottages with roll top baths, fireplaces and elegant furnishings. There are 18 rooms here and a larger cottage for small groups and families.
A wonderfully elegant property that takes you back to safaris of old but with all of the modern comforts and a superb choice for your time in this area.
A wonderful lodge, classically styled and ideally located for visiting both the Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara National Park in one go. The lodge is very peaceful, with beautiful gardens and is a real throwback to the classic safari camps from the era of Ernest Hemmingway, but with all of the modern comforts. Although it lacks the view of some other lodges in the crater area this is a wonderful option and shouldn't be discounted.
The main dining room at The Manor serves up a range of delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners for guests and has a fantastic wine list to match. For guests doing day trips to either the Ngorongoro Crater or Manyara National Park sumptuous picnic lunches will be taken with you, whilst special lunches in the crater can also be provided on request.
The 18 Manor Suites are all in their own individual cottages and have a Cape Dutch feel to them. They can accommodate 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children comfortably. With their own fireplaces and lounge areas there is plenty of space in which to relax. The larger Stable Cottage provides a wonderful private retreat for larger families and groups, accommodating up to 6 people.
A good option for families and children can be accommodated in the same room as parents if needs be.
