Thanda Tented Camp is one of the most authentic, traditional tented camps in South Africa, and harks back to the time of old explorers, but with the comforts of a modern safari. The tents are spacious and very comfortable with a small lounge area at the front where guests can relax and gaze out into the bush. The main part of the lodge has a Hemingway style mess tent, with a bar that old Ernest himself would have approved of! The food is superb and the pool area is a great spot for enjoying the sunshine between game drives. A great feature of Thanda is that in the evenings the lights run off solar power stored from the day, meaning a peaceful atmosphere and conditions that are perfect for star gazing. A beautiful camp for those looking to enjoy a more traditional safari in a country dominated by luxury lodges.
One of the most beautiful tented camps in South Africa, Thanda Tented evokes feelings of the traditional African safari, augmented by the large Hemingway Lounge which houses the bar. It is superb for star gazers as well, with little lighting in the main camp meaning beautiful views up to the night sky.
The food at Thanda is lovely, with excellent breakfasts, light lunches and superb dinners served in the mess tents. Dinners are particularly atmospheric owing to the lack of electric light. Menus focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with game meat often featuring on the menu.
With 14 standard tents and 1 Honeymoon Suite, Thanda Tented is a small camp and the tents all have the same stylish design. They are surprisingly spacious, with comfortable sofas at the front where you can relax in the afternoons. Cool in summer and warm in winter, they are always popular with guests and a wonderfully comfortable place to retreat to after a long day on safari.
