Shinde Camp is an intimate camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon in the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta. The main camp's unique raised tree house offers spectacular views of the reeded waterways, home to a fascinating birdlife. The Okavango Delta is made up of permanent water areas as well as large dry regions home to a variety of animals, reptiles and birds, making this beautiful natural wonder perfect for exploring by vehicle, on foot or by traditional mokoro. The camp's relaxed luxury, personalised service, attention to detail and wide variety of activities ensures an authentic Delta safari in the heart of the Botswana wilderness. Explore the area with a professional guide on a morning walking safari, on a mokoro, or on a game drive in specially designed vehicles. Head out into the lagoon for a chance to do some fly fishing.
The flagship property from one of the oldest operators in Botswana; Ker & Downey. It is delightfully set amongst palm trees on an island in the Delta, and has very good levels of guiding. Dining in The Treehouse is as enjoyable as it sounds, but the top tip is to book into the Shinde Enclave, a satellite camp of just three tents with its own guide and staff.
Enjoy views of the lagoon as you relax on the deck by the pool, or while swimming in the sparkling lap pool. Another wonderful tradition at Shinde is relaxing around the campfire after dinner as you enjoy the star-filled night skies of the Okavango Delta.
Dining at Shinde Camp is a wonderful group experience, as you join the other guests, camp managers and guides in the main dining tent for some delicious meals. Dinner is always a freshly-prepared 3-course meal, and gives you time to discuss your preferences for the following morning's activities.
Shinde comprises of eight twin-share safari-style tents each with en suite bathrooms that have a shower and flush toilet. Each tent is comfortably catered for with mosquito proofing, generated electricity, a handy flashlight and even a hot water bottle to warm your bed at night during winter. The tents have been strategically positioned so that from your private viewing deck you can look across the Delta's waterways or open grasslands.
Children from the age of 10 years are accepted on the Young Explorers programme, with Shinde Enclave (the quieter, more private of the two) accepting children from the age of 7.
