Escape to a tropical paradise on a quiet stretch of the Zanzibar coastline at this collection of barefoot luxury chalets and villas. Set in lush gardens next to a white sandy beach the intimate, relaxed atmosphere is conducive to whiling away the days but there are also plenty of opportunities for activity too. Matemwe is close to Mnemba Atoll with its superb diving and snorkelling and kayaking, dhow sailing trips and tours of Zanzibar are also possible.
There are three accommodation options here. Matemwe Lodge is set on a coral rock outcrop overlooking the beach and has twelve stylish chalets, including two with private plunge pools, all with a sea facing veranda complete with hammocks and sofas. Matemwe Retreat has four villas that are perfect for honeymooners offering exclusivity and privacy with the added luxuries of plunge pools, air conditioning and butler service. The villas are spacious with a relaxed Zanzibari style and a spiral staircase leads to your rooftop terrace. Meal times and menus are flexible and can be discussed with the chef and butler every day.
The Beach House is an exclusive use villa situated a few steps from the beach and is a great choice for families looking for privacy. There are two beautiful double bedrooms and a mezzanine floor with two single beds. The villa has its own swimming pool and a private chef and butler will look after your every need.
Whether you stay at the Lodge, Retreat or Beach House, a stay at Matemwe allows you to relax in friendly, informal surroundings away from the busier parts of Zanzibar.
Matemwe serves a range of fresh food and there is of course an emphasis on the fabulous local seafood. When staying at the Retreat and the Beach House guests discuss their menus with the chefs on a daily basis.
