A unique experience for true lovers of the bush in the largely unexplored region of Ifotaka – home to lemurs, unique burial tombs and the Antandroy tribe, recognised as one of the fiercest tribes in the area.
There are only six large tents, all spaced out under the shade of vast tamarind trees and high above the river bank with spectacular views of the mountains beyond. Each has a verandah, an en-suite bathroom with hot bucket showers and deeply comfortable beds.
The area in which Mandrare lies combines all that Madagascar is famed for - lemurs, unique burial tombs and fierce but friendly local tribes. Reaching here involves flying to Fort Dauphin and travelling onward by road, but like most places on this island nation, it is worth all the effort.
Gather with your fellow campers for social meals in the ‘mess tent’. Breakfasts are heavenly freshly baked breads and croissants with locally made preserves, cereals are fresh fruit juices. Lunch is a gourmet barbeque and relax at dinner with a three course dinner to cap off your bush experience. (All drinks in camp, including imported wines and spirits are complimentary).
There are only six large luxury tents, making this is a very intimate camp. Perched on the edge of the Mandrare River bank tents are built to accommodate double and twin ‘rooms’. But these are tents like no other, with amenities fit for a king:
Mandrare River Camp accepts children of all ages.
