Gibb's Farm is, as the name suggests, set on it's own working farm producing coffee, growing vegetables and rearing animals which provide the lodge much of it's produce. The location in Karatu, nestled on the lower slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater means that guests can visit both the Crater and Manyara National Parks on day trips, but this is only half the story at Gibb's.
Guests are encouraged to get involved with life on the farm, learn about the process of growing and producing coffee and helping to pick vegetables for the meals which are lovingly prepared. Visits to the local primary school and Karatu town are on offer, as well as the chance to learn more about the plants used in the production of traditional medicine.
With 17 One Bedroom and 2 Two Bedroom Cottages, Gibb's is relatively large, but these are dotted around the property so you never feel like it is overly busy. The rooms have open fires which are very welcome as the evenings here can be cool, even in summer owing to the altitude. The feeling at Gibb's is very traditional and the emphasis here is on relaxing and enjoying your beautiful surroundings.
A lovely property if you are considering a longer stay in the area around the Crater. Plenty to keep you occupied, superb food and a stunning location make Gibb's a true Africa Travel favourite
Gibb's may well be one of the most beautifully located lodges in Tanzania, offering stunning views out across the coffee plantations and a wonderfully peaceful location in which to relax. Whilst the Crater and Manyara National Parks are visited from Gibb's we would urge a slightly longer stay so you can relax, enjoy the wonderful food and beautiful views for which Gibb's is renowned.
Food is one of the main drawcards for guests going to Gibb's and what makes it unique. With 60% of the produce grown or reared on the farm, guests will have the chance to get involved with the food making process which they find very rewarding. There is even the chance to help roast the coffee that you enjoy in the lodge. Private dining can be arranged on request.
Gibb's is made up of 17 One Bedroom and 2 Two Bedroom cottages, so provides good options for families and couples travelling. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable with open fireplaces and their own verandas looking out over the farm. The feel is very English and laid back, with lots of light coming in to the rooms. The beds are gloriously comfortable and very welcoming after a long day exploring the area.
Children of all ages welcome and they can provide child minding on request.
