The Selous Game Reserve is a huge, unspoilt tract of land offering outstanding game viewing and Rufiji River Lodge is ideally located to take advantage of this. Set high on the river bank, guests will be able to enjoy excellent game viewing even when in camp as animals often come down to the river to drink during the day.
With 11 Classic Tents and three Suites, the camp is large enough to offer a friendly atmosphere, but also has enough space to offer a private feel should this be what you are looking for. The Suites with their two bedrooms and private plunge pools are ideal for families or two couples travelling together and the plunge pools are very wlecome during the heat of the summer.
The atmosphere here is superb and, being a family operated camp, you are always made to feel very welcome. The service is laid back and natural, there is always a member of staff on hand to assist but you don't feel like staff are hovering over you. The guides are fantastic, some of the best in the region, and they really help to make your stay here a special one.
Rufiji River Camp has a lovely traditional feel to it, which, coupled with the superb location makes it a great option for the Selous. With easy access to the good game viewing areas and a lovely variety of activities on offer, you really do get to see a great range of the Selous' abundant game. The guides are superb and really help to make the experience of staying here a special one. For guests feeling adventurous, we highly recommend a night or two fly camping under the stars - a magical experience and one not to be missed.
The bar and restaurant area have been built to maximise the views of the river so this is a backdrop to all mealtimes. The food is traditional safari fare, simple yet delicious and accompanied by a great range of wines. Meals are usually taken communally, however, private dinners can be arranged upon request.
The camp is made up of 11 Classic Tents and three Suites. The Classic Tents are nice and spacious, with huge verandas at the front and en-suite bathrooms with solar heating for the water. The Suites are made up of two bedrooms and have their own private plunge pools, perfect for relaxing in during the heat of the day.
Children are welcome from age tow and upwards. Those aged between two and 12 must share with a parent and cannot join walking safaris.
