Mchenja, named so because of the grove of ebony trees that it occupies on the bank of the Luangwa River, is a superb location for those looking to experience an up-market tented safari experience in the South Luangwa. The open air bathrooms and Victorian style baths overlooking the river are very popular and lend a truly colonial feel to the camp. It is a particularly good location for night drives and walks, with the guides using their encyclopaedic knowledge of the plants and animals to really bring the whole bush experience together. To round off a long day exploring the park, dinner under the stars on the river bank is a magical experience.
