Situated on a beautiful island in the Okavango Delta, Chitabe Camp is set in a private concession bordered by the Moremi Game Reserve. The main camp, positioned on a raised deck, provides great views of the floodplains from the thatched dining room and bar. Watch for wildlife from this elevated area as animals often roam freely through the camp and seek shelter under the walkways .The area's vegetation is diverse: open mopane woodlands, canopied forests, floodplains and permanent waterways. Go in search of leopard, lion, wild dog, elephant and a great variety of other wildlife on guided game drives each morning and late afternoon into the evening. The birding at Chitabe is excellent, particularly in summer (November to April), and guided nature walks provide the perfect opportunity to spot everything from common wetland species to the mega-tick, the magnificent Pel’s fishing-owl.
Chitabe enjoys one of the best locations in the Okavango Delta and the mixture of waterways, marshland and dry terrain means that a full range of activities is on offer. The elevated tents are very spacious and the camp’s position means that night drives are also possible, which is not the case in a lot of areas. Twitchers should head for here as the bird-watching is consistently good.
Chitabe's thatched central area, raised on wooden decks to provide peaceful views of the surrounding wilderness, is beautifully decorated using natural elements for a stylish African feel. The lounge and bar area leads down to an atmospheric boma arranged around a roaring campfire. Retreat to the lodge's small pool, surrounded by sun loungers. There is also a curio shop for souvenirs of your Okavango Safari
Brunches and lunches are served in the open-sided dining area with views of your wild surroundings but after a day on safari, you'll probably want to enjoy pre-dinner drinks and snacks at Chitabe's bar while you take in the African sunset. Your three-course dinner is often served under the stars and always in the company of the other guests and guides, a fun way to swap game viewing stories from the day. Post-dinner coffee and liqueurs are served around the campfire.
The eight spacious, East African-style tents are connected by elevated wooden walkways and are positioned on raised decks beneath a canopy of giant shade trees. Watch passing animals from your private veranda or take an outdoor shower surrounded by nature. Each tent also has a large en-suite bathroom at the back of the tent.
