Zambia's Lower Zambezi is renowned throughout Africa for its magnificent herds of wild elephant, exceptional predator viewing and of course the Zambezi River. It's also home to one of the continent's most spectacular and unique private homes.
Chongwe River House sleeps eight in four spacious ensuite bedrooms, making an ideal safari base for a family or a group of friends wanting a private safari.
It stands on the banks of the magical Chongwe River, close to the Zambezi, and with a sensational view of the dramatic mountainous escarpment beyond.
Many animals come to the Chongwe River to drink and from the deck the game viewing can be as good as any safari activity. The property comes fully staffed with a guide, house manager and private chef – all of whom will tailor your private safari.
Like the Luangwa Safari House, it can only be rented exclusively. The activities on offer are as impressive as the house itself, which has won design awards, with the only drawback being that it gets booked solid for weeks at a time. The tip is to get organised and reserve well in advance.
Relax in comfort and style in the sitting room or on the deck which offers views over the river and the passing wildlife, as well as the escarpment in the distance. Spend time at the private plunge pool, where you can lie in the sun or take a refreshing dip.
Chongwe River House offers superb cuisine, influenced by local African flavours and prepared by a private chef. Each meal is designed to meet your specific dietary requirements, and is served in the large dining area overlooking the mountainous escarpment and river.
Chongwe River House caters for up to eight guests, and offers four luxurious en suite bedrooms within the main house. Lavish attention to detail has been placed on every aspect of the house, including the bedrooms. Sleep comfortably on king-sized beds and wake up to spectacular views of the bush or escarpment. The bathrooms have waterfall showers and the basins that have been carved out of white marble and wood. The outside bath offers magnificent views of the surrounding wilderness.
Chongwe River House accepts children from the age of 7, but as it’s one of Chongwe’s private houses if the child is younger they could be considered, so it’s best to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Being a private house you have flexibility over meal times and your game viewing activities.
